About

How the idea started

When I traveled a lot for work, I found it took a bit of research to find restaurants that had clean food. By clean food, I mean eating foods that are as close as possible to their original state and meals made from scratch. This entails mostly organic, free of pesticides, preservatives, colors, flavors and other ingredients that aren’t necessary and in fact harmful to you and the planet. The Mayo Clinic has a great article about why eating clean is important to our health:

Clean eating nourishes your body with healthy and nutrient-dense foods. Clean foods fill your body with plentiful vitamins and minerals, high-quality protein and healthy fats, which improve heart and brain health, assist with weight management, build a stronger immune system and increase energy levels, among other benefits. Foods in their natural state are more flavorful.

We know that if we don’t eat clean and have a diet rich in heavily processed foods, with synthetics, pesticides and high levels of sugar that our health will suffer. This is why Romaine Healthy was born. We find restaurants like Chipotle that care about your health and that of the planet.

Take a look at Chipotle’s values page:

Chipotle was born of the radical belief that there is a connection between how food is raised and prepared, and how it tastes. Real is better. Better for You, Better for People, Better for Our Planet. It may be the hard way to do things, but it’s the right way.

Chipotle uses only 53 ingredients that you can pronounce and they are one of the first national restaurant brands to commit to goals on local and organic produce. The first national restaurant brand to commit to using only responsibly raised meat with some of the highest animal welfare standards.

These statements make it easy for me to choose Chipotle as a restaurant for me and my family. Our goal here at Romaine Healthy is to share restaurants that follow this clean food philosophy so you can thrive.

About Me – Mark Stephens

I have a deep passion for technology and I started writing software at age 13. I was introduced to computers by a family friend and my first job was filing papers at a company developing software. From there, my curiosity grew and I received my first computer, an Apple ][e. I learned all I could about that computer and taught myself Basic, Pascal and later the programming language C. After having kids and the challenges that come with them, I started researching food and its effects on the body. From there another deep passion for healthy food was born. To this day, there is nothing more satisfying than sharing a healthy meal with friends and family and the joy that it brings.
